Our annual Day of Dance is fast approaching and the climax will be a massed display with over 80 Morris dancers to the delight of Yateley’s residents. You’ll find us on the Village Green outside the Dog & Partridge from 5:30 pm on Saturday 17th September.
We’ve invited other Morris teams (known as ‘sides’) to join us for a day, to travel around in coaches touring the local areas of Hampshire and entertaining the general public at local events and pubs, culminating in the massed dancing on Yateley Village Green.
This is not a competition: just a friendly gathering of like-minded souls in search of fun, camaraderie and beer! It displays the diverse nature of the Morris tradition whose roots can be traced back to at least the 15th Century.
If you’re enchanted, enthralled or just plain curious why not come and have a go? No experience is necessary and you’ll never know until you try.
We have organised an Open Evening on the evening of Tuesday 27th September at the Drama Hall in Yateley Manor School from 8pm. There will be free refreshments (beer) plus some simple introductory dancing, demonstrations and music.
Don’t worry, most of us thought we couldn’t dance or play either, but it’s fun to try!
