04062026 – 09062026 “Bish Bosh! We’re off to Den Bosch” Day Three 06062026 – Utrecht and Meeting Old Friends

A bit of joint creaking this morning. After our usual bacon roll breakfast we set off on our 15 minute walk to the bus stop in Den Dungen for our transport to Den Bosch where we caught the double decker train to Utrecht Centraal. On arrival we were greeted by Maartin and Arnold of Utrecht Morris side. After a short walk to Mariaplaats we  met up with the rest of the Utrecht & Helmund Morris where we performed a few dances on a quiet tree lined square. The Horse definitely getting into the swing of things.

A short walk then for the 1st beer of the day at Springhaver, a theatre converted to a rather nice bar in a quiet side street. “Surfin’ Shark” was a popular IPA to imbibe!

A short walk to Gaardbrug where we all danced on the bridge over the canal. None of us availed ourselves (except the Horse apparently) at the very public pissoir. A very lively area where we could see plenty of activity of the Gay Pride celebrations that was happening on that day.

Feeling peckish, a short stroll to Hamburgerstraat (ha, ha) where we had a hearty lunch at De Rechtbank restaurant, meeting Maartin’s family, awww!

A few dances in the grounds before we walked to the tower of the Dom Cathedral for our final dance stop. Maartin was one of the few members of other sides who have ‘got intimate’ with our Horse – ‘Where’s Maartin?’. Finished with a satisfyingly chaotic mixed mass Bampton. We were outside “Lebowski’s Bar” where we got very tipsy in a previous visit, the writeup had the wonderful line ‘…stopping only to molest a stuffed Ostrich on the way out we stumbled into a set to dance….’
Dance of note was Blue Eyed Stranger with the Herring Bone Hay to match the Herring Bone pavement that we were dancing on.

A short walk to Café de Zaak for a final beer before embarking back to our base at Mini Camping De Groene Donk. Pizza evening for the hungry men washed down with the usual. We were starting to get the hang of this….

It was great fun to meet up with Utrecht Morris and Helmond once again, great dancers (we really liked the Fieldtown!) and great company, we’ll be back!
