Queen’s Oak
Large crowd already gathered, pub opened early, lovely setting and sun shining – perfect for the Morris! Lots of people out, the ‘Wokingham Advertiser’ reported many 100s, and a good turnout from the lads. Not only did the dancers’ bells jingle but so the pub tills!
Stifled gasps as the dancers saw the programme – the Eynsham dance ‘Figure Eight’ was scheduled as our first dance – not seen in public for 15 years and notoriously knackering, eeek. All went well tho’, the steam starting to rise from the dancers… Pretty good dancing, the performance aided, abetted and interfered with in equal measures by our Fools and the Brute.
Baz jigged as David played while the Mummers got their stuff together and on they went, a joy to perform this authentic and local play.
A generous and appreciative crowd.
Dog and Partridge
A swift journey to Yateley, another big crowd with many friends patiently waiting for us. To our delight there were many ‘Yateley Old Boys’ (or YOBS, as we affectionately refer to them) and families – Roger, Dave, Julian, Gareth, Dan, Hugh, Tom (and probably others what we have embarrassingly forgotten). Brill. Great to see them, never enough time to talk and really catchup. XXX. On with the dancing, another good display, and mumming – much roaring. Our audience were right behind us and seemed to enjoy our performances. Our final dance was a joinny inny ‘Bonny Green’ and lots of cheerfully bemused folk eagerly took up an invitation to ‘have a go’. Just Lovely.
A thanks to our audiences who came out to enjoy the performances, it is very encouraging to see so many come – it is your support and encouragement that will make sure that this fine tradition continues to thrive, We celebrate our 50th year in 2025! If you fancy trying out Morris dancing, get in touch!
