29082023 Sun & Half Moon, Windlesham

Dank, grey and damp – the weather and our mood as we headed out….but not for long…

A warm welcome at the Sun from landlady and customers. A bit of furniture shuffling and we did an enthusiastic, sweaty set inside. Spirits rose very quickly. Unusually our Fool was concentrating fiercely on calling the dances – confidently if not accurately! The Squire had playfully put together a challenging programme of ‘dances we haven’t danced this year’, you could almost hear rusty memory cogs grinding. Not too bad….. Out into the garden for some more expansive dancing and some full bore bellowing from the Fool.

Pitch black by now we headed off to the Half Moon with options where to dance, wise decision to pick a  dry spot under the glittering, sweeping Arabian Nights type canopy. Surprisingly all the lights survived… YMM settled in for a dancing sess with great enthusiasm. Good Sherborne jig by Gunther & David…sounds like a hair salon. Fool’s staff of office (tickling stick) was inserted into Gunther’s trousers…  Our small audience was both appreciative and generous. Maid of the Mill, danced with flags, was less than perfect but the laughter from the set and from the audience more than made up for lack of precision, it was very funny.

From grey and dark to bright and sparkly – Tuesday nights with YMM.

Pick of the performance (for audience mirth), Maid of the Mill, Ilmington and pick of the beers, a tie, Landlord and Youngs Ordinary
