The Red Lion was mobbed. Not a spare seat in the house. Were they there for the fabulous food, ales and ambiance or were they there for the Morris? Delighted to be out again with our old friends Thames Valley Morris Men – so many familiar faces. A good turn out from Yateley – possibly as rumour had it that this was likely to be Rod’s last Tuesday night out with the lads before moving up north. Yateley performed a selection of dances including Old Woman Tossed Up from Fieldtown – a lovely dance. TVMM were a little light on numbers so Baz bravely helped out with a rarely seen Bamton Trunkles and many of the YMM lads helped out with Lichfield Vandals – including Phil who must have broken the world sprint record in getting back into place at the end of the hey!
The pub was very generous with free flowing ale for the morrismen including the spectacular Surrey Nivarna from Hogs Back – delicious! And the staff were brilliant. A couple of them readily joined in Sheherds Hey including a very enthusiastic Oli who didn’t stop grinning the whole way through – well done Oli!
The squire decided it was time for another hat competition in order to maintain standards. Who had the best flower arrangement? No surprises eh Rod! A lovely evening all round and particularly fitting as a kind of send off for our well loved foreman of music. We wish Rod and Jinny all the best but we know we will be seeing them out with us again for sure.
